Fund fact sheets can look technical, but a few fields tell most of the story.
Start with the fund objective and category. A money market fund, income fund, balanced fund, and equity fund can all behave very differently in volatile periods. Compare a fund to peers in the same category before judging performance.
Next, review the latest NAV date and trailing returns (1M, 3M, 6M, 1Y). Short windows can swing sharply, so avoid reading one month in isolation. Use longer windows and consistency to build context.
Then check fees and loads. Management fee, front-end load, and back-end load directly affect investor outcomes. Two similar funds can produce different net outcomes once costs are considered.
Finally, confirm risk profile and allocation mix. Equity-heavy strategies usually carry larger drawdowns, while cash/fixed-income allocations can reduce volatility. Use these fields to align a fund shortlist with your personal risk tolerance and time horizon.
